Welcome to Science at Newfold.
"It is our intention to develop the intellectual and practical skills, allowing pupils to explore and investigate the world of science and develop a fuller understanding of science phenomena, the nature of the theories explaining these, and the procedures of scientific investigation. Therefore, inspiring all pupils to become independent thinkers, who use their scientific knowledge to deepen their understanding of the constantly changing world we live in."

Science - Knowledge Organisers
Our Science Ambassador team 2023-24
Each class from Year 2 to Year 6 voted for their Science Ambassador to be part of our school Science team.
What's New?
We visited the Wigan Youth Climate Summit event in October 2023 with Mrs Henthorn and Miss Diamond to develop our awareness of sustainability. We had a fantastic day networking with other schools and speaking to lots of companies. We have new ideas for ways we can become more sustainable and move forward as a school.
We are starting our application for the Eco-Schools award, building on our continued work to become a more sustainable school.
Our recent Science Ambassador meeting was on Wednesday 29th November 2023. We had a productive afternoon producing a scientific enquiry document together for our school. See below for the final product!
We will be completing a litter pick on Wednesday 6th December 2023. We will keep you updated on our little picking mission soon.
Science - Pupil Voice
Why is pupil voice so important?
We value the views of our children and hold half termly meetings with our Science Ambassadors from Year 1 to Year 6. During this time, we work collaboratively to create our school science vision through their opinions and ideas. Working together in this manner supports our engagement with science learning and commitment to maintaining our 'Science Quality Mark' achievement.

Our Science Ambassadors have been working with Mrs Henthorn to develop a scientific enquiry document. They found examples in their books of each enquiry type and shared this will pupils in assembly so that everyone is aware of how we learn new things through our discoveries. You will find examples of our work through enquiries on our classroom displays.
