Welcome to English at Newfold.
"Through our curriculum, we aim to inspire a love of reading, writing and discussion, and to equip our children with the tools needed to be become resilient, independent learners, which in turn supports their development in all areas of the curriculum and future life.
Through our tailored approach, children become fluent, confident readers with a joy of reading and love of literature. We immerse children with a wide range of rich and diverse texts that help develop children’s understanding of wider social, moral, spiritual and cultural issues: ensuring our pupils become global citizens, who demonstrate tolerance, respect and care for the world we live in.
We nurture a culture where children take pride in their writing, can write clearly, imaginatively and accurately and adapt their language and style for a range of contexts. We inspire children to be confident in the art of speaking and listening and to use discussion to communicate and further their learning in all areas of the curriculum. Developing all of these key English skills is fundamental to our children succeeding: enabling them to access the next stage of their education and beyond."

World Book Week 2023
Once again this year, we continued to enrich our English curriculum by celebrating World Book Week. As with previous years, we hosted a wide range of events throughout the week, highlighting the importance of reading and writing in a fun way! We enjoyed taking part in Bookie Breakfasts, challenging ourselves in this year's famous emoji quiz and celebrating on the day by pairing up with our reading buddies from different year groups.
As a whole school, we also celebrated together by sharing the book 'Castles' by Colin Thompson. Each year group enjoyed reading this fascinating book set in fantastical worlds, and really enjoyed producing some imaginative pieces of writing throughout the week.
