Welcome to English at Newfold.
"Through our curriculum, we aim to inspire a love of reading, writing and discussion, and to equip our children with the tools needed to be become resilient, independent learners, which in turn supports their development in all areas of the curriculum and future life.
Through our tailored approach, children become fluent, confident readers with a joy of reading and love of literature. We immerse children with a wide range of rich and diverse texts that help develop children’s understanding of wider social, moral, spiritual and cultural issues: ensuring our pupils become global citizens, who demonstrate tolerance, respect and care for the world we live in.
We nurture a culture where children take pride in their writing, can write clearly, imaginatively and accurately and adapt their language and style for a range of contexts. We inspire children to be confident in the art of speaking and listening and to use discussion to communicate and further their learning in all areas of the curriculum. Developing all of these key English skills is fundamental to our children succeeding: enabling them to access the next stage of their education and beyond."

World Book Week
At Newfold, we love celebrating the joy of reading and writing, and World Book Week is always a highlight of our English curriculum. In previous years, we have explored fascinating books such as Castles by Colin Thompson, with each year group enjoying the story and creating imaginative pieces of writing to bring the book to life.
This year, we took a different approach with the theme “Stories Come to Life.” Every child engaged in a range of drama performances, many of which were shared across the school, encouraging creativity and bringing their favourite stories to life. Alongside this, we enjoyed traditional World Book Week activities such as Bookie Breakfasts, the famous Emoji Quiz, and pairing up with reading buddies from different year groups - all designed to make reading and writing fun and interactive.
Our celebrations show that stories aren’t just something we read... they’re something we can share, perform and enjoy together.
